Both events, along with programs packaged from outside facilities, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and creative programming, make up Miami Art Week 2022, which takes over a Florida-style coastal city.

PULSE TYPOLOGY by BMW & Rafael Lozano-Hemmer

Pulse Topology is the first Miami presentation of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s ongoing ‘Pulse Artworks’ series , which captures and makes participants’ heartbeats real. Pulse Topology is an immersive light and sound environment powered by six pulse sensors with innovative photoplethysmography (PPG) technology that uses computer vision algorithms to optically detect each visitor’s heart rate.

Three thousand light bulbs suspended at different heights will create a magnificent landscape of mountains and valleys. Inspired by conversations with engineers and designers of the new BMW i7, Lozano-Hemmer will use the same technology that activates the pulse topology to illuminate the interior of the BMW i7 with the heart rate of visitors. Check out previous designboom coverage here of the installation on display last summer in Basel.

Audi x Andrés Reisinger
installations inspired by Audi’s ‘grandsphere’ concept vehicle

At Design Miami/, Audi brings new immersive digital installations and the experience of working with digital artist and designer Andrés Reisinger. The new work is inspired by Audi’s ‘grandsphere’ concept, a perspective on the future of Audi’s premium mobility.

To create meaningful and engaging experiences that will shape mobility and premium design, Audi believes in co-creation. Together with Andrés Reisinger, the brand explores areas beyond physical installations, digitally reinterpreting interior spaces.

Audi has a vision to create a better future for generations to come and this attitude is deeply rooted in the brand, striving for progress. For Audi, the future is a space for ideas, innovation and design. By rethinking the design and approaching it from the inside out, Audi’s “grandsphere” concept, which is not available as a production vehicle, demonstrates an experience of a human-centered, personal environment.

The Miami Dade College (MDC) Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) presented the ‘Estuary’ pavilion, a work by Cuban-American artist Rafael Domenech, during the 39th Miami Book Fair at the MDC Wolfson Campus in downtown Miami.

Commissioned by MOAD, it functions on many levels: as a public sculpture, reflection on the written word, a platform for live performances and public meetings, and a meditation setting. It is made of everyday building materials, such as aluminum frames, and can mutate into a variety of different spatial configurations. Large panels or “pages” of construction mesh display laser-cut text that will change throughout the duration of the project.
